What Is Root Canal Treatment?
Root canal treatment removes infected or damaged tissue from inside a tooth. Each tooth contains a network of canals housing nerves and blood vessels. When bacteria reach this inner pulp, through a crack, deep decay, or trauma, infection develops. Left untreated, this leads to abscess, significant pain, and eventual tooth loss.
The procedure clears the infection, cleans and shapes the canals, and seals the tooth to prevent reinfection. In most cases a crown is placed afterwards to restore strength and function. The result is a tooth that looks, feels, and functions normally.
