Strong, Natural-Looking Protection for Damaged Teeth

When a tooth is weakened, worn, or severely damaged, a crown can restore its strength, shape, and appearance. A crown is essentially a custom-made cap that fits over your existing tooth, protecting what’s left and blending in naturally with the rest of your smile.

At Woodberry Down Dental Practice, we use crowns to repair damaged teeth, restore function, and improve comfort. Whether your crown is part of a larger treatment like a root canal or dental implant, or simply the best option to save a failing tooth, we’ll guide you through the process with clarity and care.

When is a Crown the Right Option?

You may need a crown if your tooth is cracked, heavily filled, worn down from grinding, or has been treated with a root canal. Crowns can also be used to support a dental bridge or cover a dental implant. If a tooth is misshapen or discoloured and cannot be improved with whitening, a crown may be recommended for aesthetic reasons as well.

Dental Crowns Materials and Appearance

Crowns can be made from porcelain, ceramic, composite resin, metal alloys, or a combination of these. Dr Shah and his team will help you choose the most suitable material based on the tooth’s location, your bite, and how visible the crown will be when you smile. We aim for a result that feels strong, fits comfortably, and looks as natural as possible.

What to Expect from the Process

Placing a crown typically takes two visits. During the first visit, we prepare the tooth by gently shaping it and removing any damaged areas. An impression is taken so your crown can be made to fit precisely. You’ll be fitted with a temporary crown to protect the tooth while the permanent one is being crafted.

At your second visit, we check the fit and colour of your new crown and make any small adjustments before bonding it securely in place. Once fitted, your crown should feel just like a natural tooth and, with good care, can last many years.

Your Comfort Comes First

We know dental restorations can feel daunting, especially if you’ve had a bad experience in the past. Our team will walk you through each step and make sure you feel calm, comfortable, and well looked after from beginning to end.
